Drive Spacer — Privacy Policy
Effective 17 September 2026
Drive Spacer measures what is using space on your Mac. To do that it reads your disk. It does not send what it finds anywhere, and there is no account to create.
This policy is published by Kaizen Tech Service (Kaizentechservice), a sole proprietorship registered with the Government of India as a Micro Enterprise under Udyam registration UDYAM-GJ-22-0619445, at Flat 607, Elephanta Business Hub, Block A, Dabholi, Near Haridarshan Society, Surat, Gujarat 395004, India.
1. The short version
Nothing about your disk — no file name, no path, no total, nothing Drive Spacer has found — ever leaves this machine.
That holds in every version, under every setting. It is not a preference you can get wrong. The app has no analytics, no crash reporting of its own, no advertising, no third-party trackers, and no account system.
2. What the app reads
Drive Spacer reads the folders you point it at. For each file it reads the information the filesystem already holds: name, path, size on disk, logical size, dates, and whether the file is stored locally or kept in iCloud.
It reads the contents of files in one case only. When you ask it to find duplicates, it reads files that share a size so it can compare them, and it compares them by computing a digest on your Mac. The contents are not copied, kept, or transmitted. If you never open Duplicates, this never happens.
3. What the app stores, and where
Everything Drive Spacer keeps is a file on your own Mac:
- Saved scans and their summaries, and cleanup receipts and free-space readings — in
~/Library/Application Support/Ledger/index.sqlite, so you can compare a folder against how it looked last month and so anything removed can be put back. - Files you chose to hold — in
~/Library/Application Support/Ledger/Attic. This is the thirty-day hold: your files are moved there, kept for thirty days so one press can put them back, and removed after that. They are never opened, read or sent anywhere while they wait. - Your licence key, if you bought from us directly — so the app knows it is unlocked without asking anybody.
- Your App Store purchase, if you bought there — Apple’s signed receipt, kept so the app can check it again without a network.
- Your settings, and which folders you granted access to — so you do not choose the same folder twice.
You can delete any of it. Saved Scans, in the File menu, shows what this store costs and lets you forget individual scans or all of them. Deleting the app’s Application Support folder removes the lot.
The folder is named Ledgerbecause that was the app’s working name during development. It holds Drive Spacer’s data.
The Mac this copy is on
If you unlock the app with a key, the activation record holds a hash— a one-way scramble — of your Mac’s hardware identifier, mixed with the key’s own number. It is stored so the app can tell the key was activated here. It is never transmitted, because there is nowhere to transmit it: there is no activation server, and the key is checked by arithmetic on your own machine. The hardware identifier itself is not stored, and the hash cannot be turned back into it.
On the rare Mac that will not report a hardware identifier at all, the app generates a random number once and keeps it in its own preferences instead. It identifies nothing but this installation, and it also goes nowhere.
4. What leaves your Mac
Three things, all of them about the app rather than about your disk, and none of them carrying anything Drive Spacer found. Two of the three happen only if you ask for them.
If you have the App Store version
The app asks Apple whether you have bought the in-app purchase that unlocks moving files. That is a StoreKit call made by macOS on the app’s behalf. It tells Apple that this copy checked its purchase. It does not tell Apple, or us, anything about your files. We receive no personal information from it; what Apple collects when you buy something is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy, not by this one.
If you have the version downloaded from our site
That version can check whether a newer release exists by fetching a file that lists the current version. The check is switched off until you switch it on, in Settings. When it runs, the request carries what any HTTP request carries: your IP address, and the version of the app asking. We do not use it to build a profile and we do not join it to anything else. If you never turn it on, that version makes no network connection at all.
The App Store version has no updater in it. Updates arrive through the App Store.
If you press Test Speed
The menu bar panel has a Wi-Fi tile with a speed test on it. Pressing it downloads roughly ten megabytes from Cloudflare’s public speed-test address and times how long that takes. It asks before the first run and does nothing until you agree. The request carries what any HTTP request carries — your IP address — and nothing else: no file name, no total, no identifier of any kind. Cloudflare’s handling of it is covered by their privacy policy. If you never press it, this never happens.
5. What we collect
Nothing. We operate no server that Drive Spacer talks to about you, we run no analytics in the app, and we have no account system. There is no profile of you for us to hold, sell or lose.
If you email us, we have your email and whatever you wrote in it, for as long as it takes to answer you and to keep a record of the conversation.
6. Children
Drive Spacer is a disk utility rated 4+. It collects nothing from anybody, children included.
7. Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is usually nothing for us to give you a copy of, correct or delete. Everything the app stores is on your own Mac and is yours to remove at any time. If you have emailed us and want that correspondence deleted, ask and we will delete it.
8. Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it, and the app’s own Settings screen continues to link here. We will not make a change that starts collecting something without saying so plainly.
